Air Combat Command and Air Force Space Command Inspector General teams visited here May 30 to June 13 to evaluate the 5th Bomb Wing and 91st Space Wing’s ability to manage nuclear resources while complying with all nuclear surety standards. The 91st SW also went through a readiness inspection June 8 - 9.
Both wings received the highest nuclear surety inspection rating of satisfactory. The 91st SW received an “Excellent” for their RI.
The ACC IG team conducted three exercises and conducted a formal critique across the 5th BW during the inspection period.
“A strong sense of teamwork and pride permeated every organization,” said Col. Michael Rollison, ACC IG NSI team chief. “A NSI is an intense and demanding event with little room for error. Congratulations on a job well done.”
The AFSPC IG team conducted numerous exercises, evaluated two special interest items and conducted a formal critique across the 91st SW for the NSI and readiness inspection.
“The last time we saw scores this good was last year in Minot,” said Col. Albert Sly, AFSPC IG chief of inspection division.
One graded sub-area, personnel reliability program, received outstanding ratings two years in a row for the AFSPC NSI which is unprecedented according to Colonel Sly. PRP also received an outstanding rating in the ACC NSI inspection.
“No inspection in the Air Force is as comprehensive as a NSI,” said Brig. Gen. Thomas Deppe, 20th Air Force commander. “I’ve been doing this for 39 years and have never seen results like this.”
