1968: Minot AFB's organizational makeup changed when the 91st Strategic Missile Wing replaced the 455th Strategic Missile Wing at Minot AFB. The 91st took over control of the 740th, 741st and 742nd Strategic Missile Squadrons
The change was in line with Air Force policy in keeping active those units with the most illustrious histories. To preserve the continuity of units with distinguished histories, the 455th Strategic Missile Wing was redesignated as the 91st Strategic Missile Wing. The 91st had organizational roots dating from World War II and had gained recent fame as a B-52 wing operating over Vietnam.
